Batter Up!

17 Aug

South St. Paul is a baseball town…and a hockey town…and a sports town in general.  It seems that everyone plays sports here!  Baseball is such a big deal that a quarter of the enrolling kindergarteners played on the Parks and Rec t-ball league.  So, what do we do to meet neighbors?  Enroll Hazel in t-ball.

We were eager to meet neighbors and get involved in our community so Mike volunteered to coach and I agreed that our family would come to every game.  So twice a week we donned our red and headed to the local baseball diamonds.

Not sure what to expect we started praying in May and made a few goals.

  • Talk to each family who comes
  • Host an ice cream social and invite our whole team
  • Invite one family over for dinner
  • Teach Hazel that playing sports (especially at age 4) is all about having fun

Both Hazel and Ambrose loved T-ball.   Hazel really improved at the game and showed great discipline to advance her skills.  We met several families in our neighborhood and we’re continuing friendship with a family or two.   We proved to ourselves that getting involved in our community doesn’t just need to be “one more thing” to do.

Hazel had a “League of their Own” thing going on with the skirt. Gotta be a lady even on the ball field!
