Tip for Take-out?

1 Oct

Tonight we’re doing our Friday night “Date Night.”  The usual as of late is Chinese take-out from our favorite hole-in-the-wall and a movie after Hazel’s in bed.

Question, do you tip for take-out?  As mentioned we love this place and we order from them often.  We’re generous tippers for table service, but what’s common etiquette for take-out?

I tip for table service and delivery, but they aren’t really doing anything (besides someone cooking it and someone boxing it up) for take-out. That would be like tipping at a fast-food place. I never tip for take-out. That’s my thoughts on it anyways. (I have wondered, though, if I should…)

No, I don’t think it’s necessary to tip for take-out. The reasons cited above are good- they don’t do anything for you- you just walk in there and pick up your food. If they brought it out to your car or something like that, I would consider it, but probably wouldn’t leave any percentage- just a buck or two.
